The 2015-16 academic year is a very exciting one for BDIC as it sees the first cohort of students from Beijing coming to Dublin to undertake their final year of study at UCD.

22 students from the 2012-13 Internet of Things Engineering (IoTE) class have been in Dublin since the summer, having undertaken pre-sessional English programmes. They started the final year of their IoTE programme on Monday of last week and look set to have a demanding but hopefully rewarding year of study ahead of them.

One of the great benefits in coming to Ireland to live and study is that it offers a great opportunity to students to improve their English and get to know people from different cultures. Our 22 IoTE students have certainly made the most of their time here on both counts. All of our students were successful in completing their Pre-Sessional English programme at the UCD Applied Language centre. During their time there, they have also studied and socialised with students from a variety of different countries, including Brazil, Japan, France, Italy and more. In addition to their studies, our students got the chance to live in homestay accommodation with Irish families, providing a further boost to their knowledge of Irish culture. The students are now living on the UCD campus and settling down to life in University accommodation which is a little different to what they would have been used to in Beijing.

On September 14, UCD hosted a delegation of senior academics from some of China’s leading Universities, including our own Prof. Liu, BDIC Principal. Several of our stage 4 students served as guides for these distinguished visitors during their campus tour. Prof. Liu also met with the students after the tour and was very impressed by their progress. His words of encouragement and advice will no doubt be a great help to our students in the coming year.
