Profile: Educated at Carre’s Grammar School, Sleaford, Andrew went on to study at Leeds and Sheffield Hallam Universities. Among his many qualifications and achievements, he has an MA TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) as well as the Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults - Speakers of Other Languages). He has around 16 years’ experience with Chinese learners in China and UK universities and worked as an IELTS examiner with the British Council across five countries. His research interests into Chinese learners in academic environments has led to a very progressive teaching approach, resulting in invitations to international conferences and a teaching-learning method which is proving to be very effective at BDIC.

Academic achievements:

BJUT Teaching Excellence Award, 2020.

Presenter, 2021 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Conference, Suzhou. Paper presented: Pedagogical approaches to discourse analysis: A Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST) analysis of second-year undergraduate Chinese university student essays with comparable samples from the British Academic Written English (BAWE) Corpus’.
